National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has unveiled life skills training for 100 trainees on quick-fix and technocultural crafts training skills in Kano.
Unveiling the program in Kano on Thursday, the Director General of the Agency Mr Abubakar Fikpo, charged the trainees on proper utilisation of the acquired skills.
Mr Fiko, represented by the Kano state Coordinator of the agency Mr Inuwa Abdullahi, urged the trainees to step down the trainings to others.
According to him, “The training is aimed at imparting skills on unemployed persons to enable them become skilled and proficient enough to earn a living.
“It is also to enable them contribute positively towards economic growth of the society so as to meet up with challenges of unemployment in the country.”
The Director further revealed that the technocultural training was to impart skills in areas of cultural crafts such as pottery , leather works, tie dye, cap/hat weaving and bead stringing.
“Indegenous crafts have the potential of providing gainful employment to the unemployed especially in rural and sub-urban areas.
“It has a high attraction and opportunity for foreign exchange earnings on crafts that are demand driven.”
Also speaking at the exercise the Director Vocational Skills Department of the Agency, Mr Isa Abdu, represented by state Director Mr Mustapha Jibril, tasked the trainees on resilience
He appealed to them to be patient and pay attention in order to take away the best of the training sessions.
In a good will message, The Director of a non governmental organisation, Women Education Advocacy and Development Initiative (WEADI) Asma’u Ahmad, commended the Agency for their efforts.
She charged the women to appreciate the gesture by proper utilisation of their newly acquired skills to support their families.
