An early morning fire outbreak at Badume tomato market in Bichi Local Government area of Kano has claimed the lives of three persons.
Over 100 temporary shops had also been razed by the inferno.
Bizpoint reports that the fire started from a shop at the middle of the popular village market.
Narrating the incident, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi noted that the agency received an emergency call from one Ibrahim Tsalha at about 3:30am on Saturday.
He highlighted that, on receiving the distress call, a rescue team was quickly mobilised to the scene, where three unknown persons, a female and two males including an elderly man with special needs, were trapped in a shop.
The PRO explained that, the victims were rescued unconscious and later confirmed dead by health officials.
He pointed out that, about one hundred temporary shops were completely razed, while the team successfully quenched the fire to avoid spreading to other parts of the market.
Yusuf said the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
He charged the public to use fire and electrical appliances with care to avoid fire incidences.
