CITAD, Lenovo Foundation conclude training on digital technology for women in Kano, Bauchi

The Centre for Information Technology and Development, CITAD, with support of Lenovo Foundation has concluded a month-long Digital Creativity Training for women in Kano and Bauchi states.

The training, themed “Digital Creativity and Innovation for Young Women, DICI-YOW” commenced in Kano on 20th July, 2022.

The women-focused digital incubator training, graduated young, willing and enterprising women for the purpose of taking their lives to greater heights.

According to the Executive Director of the Centre, Engr. Y.Z Ya’u, the program is designed to facelift and empower 200 young girls on digital skills, and produce 80 digital entrepreneurs as well as to create 160 new digital jobs for girls on annual basis.

He said the Centre has since completed the training with a tremendous success, where the participants acquired basic and advanced digital and business skills.

He said that “the Centre trained the participants in both Kano and Jama’are, Centres on how to secure jobs and source entrepreneurship and business opportunities available at various capacities”.

The Executive Director noted that, the workshop introduced the participants to websites and foundations they can visit to secure jobs, soft loans and grants from government establishments and private entities”.

Part of the initiatives introduced to the participants includes; “Jobberman.com, ZipRecruiter, Teachaway, Careerjet, LinkedIn, Glassdoor sites, Bank of Industries (BOI), and Bank of Agriculture”.

Ya’u explained that as a takeaway home, a call of volunteers from Save the Children was shared and helped the participants to take advantage of it as a pathway to building a career today, for a greater tomorrow.

“Other opportunities shared with the participants included Women Startup Challenge, Tech Startup Grant, 2023 Open Minds – Young Voices’ Youth Activists Program, 3rd Cohort for iHatch free intensive incubation program and the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI)”.
