Amina, a widow and mother of seven in Kano state, who depends on selling Cress leaf, popularly known as ‘lansir’ in Hausa parlance, has got support of N50,000 from Women in Diaspora, an association of women living abroad.
BizPoint had on December 17, reported the pathetic story of Amina, who lost her husband ten years ago, but decided to venture into a small-scale business to avoid engaging in street begging.
The widow told this newspaper that since the death of her husband a decade ago, she had shouldered the responsibility of taking care of her seven orphans as no one had ever supported her.
“I am the one who feed these seven orphans, pay their schools fees, provide cloth, medication, among others to them. Again, i am the one who pays the rent because since my husband’s death, we have beenlvong in a rented apartment and no one has ever supported me,” she said.

But, after the report, one Fauziyya D. Suleman, who is the Executive Director of Creative Helping Needy, a Non Governmental Organization shared it on her Facebook page, a post that received thousands of comments and other engagement.
After sharing the story, it caught the attention of the Women in Diaspora, who swiftly offered to support Amina with N50,000 to boost her business and continue to take care of her children at ease.
Speaking on behalf of Women in Diaspora, Fauziyya said the gesture was to help cushion the effects of economy on Amina.
Speaking after receiving the money at her place of business near Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital on Monday, an elated Amina, who bursted into tears, expressed gratitude for the gesture.
According to her, the cash support is a new dawn in her life as nobody had ever offered that kind of assistance to her throughout her travail.
While thanking Women in Diaspora, the beneficiary also thanked Creative Helping Needy for facilitating the support.
She also expressed gratitude to BizPoint newspaper, which according to her, is the genesis to the support after her story was published on the platform.
She also pledged to use the money judiciously, promising to use the cash to boost her business.
