The Kano state gubernatorial candidate of Action Democratic Party, ADP, Sha’aban Sharada has promised to raise the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, from N2.5 billion to N10 billion monthly if elected as governor.
Sharada made the promise at a gubernatorial debate, organised by BBC Hausa Service, held at Bayero University Kano, BUK campus on Saturday.
According to Sharada, member representing Kano Municipal Federal constituency at House of Representatives, he had already met with experts on how to achieve the improved IGR regime in the state.
He revealed that he sat with communication experts, who disclosed to him that Kano is the state with the highest mobile telephone subscribers.
Sharada, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Security and Intelligence, also the experts explained to him that each phone call make by a subscriber, Lagos State, the network host community, gets a certain percentage out of it.

He also stated that he had already sponsored a motion on how to review that bill, adding that he had commenced plans on how to make Kano a network host community in order to improve its IGR.
“Kano has the highest mobile network subscribers. We are third in internet subscription on Nigeria. I met with telecommunication experts, who told me that for each call, a host community, which Lagos, gets certain percentage out of the call tariff.
“We have already swing into action. We will review this bill and make Kano benefit from telecommunication. We are on course to raising Kano ‘s IGR from N2.5 billion to N10 billion by God’s grace,” Sharada promised.
The ADP gubernatorial candidate also promised to boost Kano ‘s Gross Domestic Product, GDP, saying “as it is now, Kano is presently 14th or 15th in Nigeria. But, by God’s grace, if elected, i will move Kano ‘s GDP up to 3rs or 4th in our first two years in office.”
He also said he has had series of meetings with foreign investors, who according to him, had expressed readiness to invest in Kano if he is elected as governor.
Sharada also revealed that about 300 business moguls from 50 countries would storm Kano to attend the unveiling of his blueprint in the next couple of weeks.
He also disclosed that he had a discussion with one of the Saudi Arabia Prince, who promised to come to Kano for investments in many areas of development of Sharada is elected as governor in the March governorship election.
