The Kano Pilgrims Welfare Board has said it has received 5,902 slots from the National Hajj Commission, NAHCON, for the 2023 Hajj exercise.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Muhammad Abba Dambatta gave the hint at the inauguration of this year’s mass Hajj enlightenment programme, popularly known as ‘bita’ in Hausa parlance in Kano on Saturday.
According to Dambatta, already about 4,000 intending pilgrims had deposited their money out of the 5,902 slots, representing over 70 percent.
The Executive Secretary said that Kano State Government had done a lot in ensuring that the forthcoming Hajj operations is done without hitches.

He said, despite the fact that the 2022 Hajj operations encountered serious problems, Kano still excelled, eliciting awards from stakeholders such as Independent Hajj Reporters.
He noted that the commencement of the mass enlightenment programme is of significant benefit to the intending pilgrims, especially first -timers, as it gives them the opportunity to study the Hajj exercise before travelling to the holy land.
On his part, the Deputy Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Musa Sani Bakura, said Nigeria recorded zero drugs related problems during the last year 2022 Hajj Pilgrimage.
He said “we have not received any complaints from the Saudi Arabia authorities of Nigerians exporting drugs or been cut with drugs during the operations,”
The NDLEA Chief explained that for this year’s Hajj, they had taken strong measure to ensure that no one transport drugs to the Holy Land including those who export large scale contraband and prohibited items to Saudi Arabia.
