Over 400 sets of cloth and blankets have been burnt when a fire gutted a local laundry outlet in Kano state.
The incident occurred at Fagge Local Government area on Wednesday when the fire, which was said to have been caused by electric spark, destroying cloths worth millions of Naira.
Owner of the laundry, Jamilu Ahmad told BizPoint on Saturday morning that the unfortunate incident happened at about 2:00am, “immediately after electricity supply was restored at the area, causing a powerful spark that ignited the fire.”
According to him, he was called on phone around 4am and informed that fire gutted his shop but was put off by good samaritan who were sleeping near the laundry.

According to Ahmad, popularly known as Jamilu Maiguga, when he rushed to the scene, he found out that the fire had damaged parts of the shop where he keeps the cloths.

The launder, who had been running the business for over 30 years, narrated that as he was counting the losses, he found that cloths worth N7 million were completely burnt by the midnight inferno.
The devastated Ahmad also said one of the affected customers had his cloths, worth N3 million burnt, adding that “and he insisted that i must pay him for the cloths.”
“I was called on phone around 4am, informing me that my laundry shop had been gutted by fire. I rushed to the scene, but before i came, my boys, together with some good samaritan at the area, put off the fire.
“However, it has damaged large part of the shop with cloths, worth over N7 million burnt. A customer, who is most hit, estimated his burnt cloths at N3 million and he insisted that i must pay him for the cloths.

“We are now in negotiation with him to reduce the amount for me. He said I should pay him N1.5 million. In view of the loss, i can not pay him such amount because there are other affected customers who might ask me to pay for their damaged cloths.
“This is a fate from God and i have accepted it in good faith. Especially at this festive period i pray to Allah to help me out,” he said.
“I now reported the incident to Kano state Fire Service and would do same to the police on Monday,” he said.
BizPoint understands that most of the cloths could be new which the customers would have used for Sallah festivities.
