Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with MetroGate Inc. Abuja, has planned to conduct a one-day comprehensive training programme for Police officers on Artificial Intelligence, AI and its application in community relations.
The spokesman of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa disclosed this in a statement in Kano on Wednesday.
He said the plan came up when the Executive Director of MetroGate Inc., Ali Isah paid a courtesy visit to the state’s Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel in his office on Monday.
Speaking during the visit, Executive Director of the company stated that “In this rapidly evolving digital age, harnessing the power of AI can significantly improve the quality, efficiency, and diversity of community relations for law enforcement agencies.”
He emphasized that the knowledge of AI equips officers with the necessary skills to tackle challenges, such as information overload, misinformation, and negative narratives.
The proposed training programme, according to him, would consist of series of physical sessions, carefully designed to impart practical knowledge and skills to participating Police Officers.
“This proposed training program aims to equip Police Officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to utilize AI responsibly and effectively, fostering trust and building stronger bonds with the communities they serve,” the Executive Director was quoted as saying in the statement.
In his response, according to Kiyawa, the Commissioner of Police appreciated Metrogate Inc. for extending the offer of a training to the Police Command.
He assured the firm of the Command’s readiness to partner with all relevant stakeholders for the training and retraining of Police Officers and to ensure the safety and general security of Kano State.
