The Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of ELERA Agro Nigeria Ltd, Hassan Zain has said that the company, which is the first to establish cooking oil refinery in Kano state, will be commissioned in the next six months.
Zain disclosed this when he received the state Commissioner of Commerce, Abbas Sani Abbas, who was there on a courtesy visit, according to statement by Sabo Yahaya Aliyu,
Director Public Enlightenment, Kano State Consumer Protection Council on Sunday.
He said the company, situated at Chalawa Industrial area in Kano, would be processing 20,000 metric tons daily when fully operational.
Zain said the company, apart from cooking oil would also be providing fertilizer, animal feeds and other bye products.
The CEO pointed out that about 85 percent of the company’s workers are indigenous, pledging that the firm would also be engaging in conducting social responsibility to the host community.
He explained that Nigeria, being a fertile land, there are many potentials for to investment in commercial agriculture that would generate revenue and reduce interdependence.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Commerce, assured the state government’s commitment towards ensuring realization of the first made-in Nigeria cooking oil in the state.
Abbas explained that the present administration is committed to people oriented programmes, aimed at reducing idleness among the teeming youth in the state, which is the second most populous in the country.
He said the choice of Kano in establishing the refinery is not a surprise being a commercial nerve centre in the country, as well as the availability of raw materials required and skilled manpower.
“Abbas pointed out that apart from creating wealth, the company will also boost farming and provide employment for our youths,” he was quoted as saying in the statement.
He called on wealthy individuals in the state to imbibe the habit of coming up with meaningful programmes that would be of benefit to the people.
“The Commissioner tasked them to adhere strictly to the ethics of their profession as government would not fold its arms to allow producing substandard products in the state,” the statement concluded.
