The newly elected Chairman of Kantin Kwari Market Traders Association, Balarabe Alkasim Tatari has vowed to check the incessant extortion of customers that come to buy goods at the market allegedly by security agents while exiting Kano state.
In a voice statement obtained by BizPoint, the Chairman particularly blamed security operatives of extorting the customers that come from various states at the exit points of the state.
According to him, the drivers that carry the goods are charged between N2,000 and N5,000 at about ten checkpoints before exiting Kano, noting that the burden of the charges would be on the customers.

He lamented that the situation had negatively affected businesses in the market.
“As soon as i emerge as the Chairman of the association, i will tackle the problem that affects our businesses.
“Firstly, the issue of extortion of our customers. We are battling with extortion of our customers by customs at exit points. Our customers that come from various states had to pay charges between N2,000 and N5,000 at about ten checkpoints before exiting Kano.
“We follow supply due process to supply our goods and our customers come to purchase in bulk, but end up being extorted which also make them incur losses as they already spent their profits in paying charges. This is not good and we will check it squarely,” he said.
