The Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO has reacted to the new upward review of the cost of meter by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.
BizPoint reports that the NERC had approved an upward review in the price of electricity prepayment meters under the Meter Asset Provider, MAP, scheme from N63,061.32 to N88,123.30 for Single-Phase.
Others are from N117,910.69 to N154,623.81 for Three-Phase meters (VAT inclusive), effective from 5th September 2023, in NERC Order no: NERC/2023/020.

In a statement obtained by BizPoint on Thursday, signed by the management, KEDCO said while taking into consideration the affordability and price burden on customers, the price review was necessary to ensure viable return on investment (Rol) and cost recovery associated with meter procurement and maintenance to guarantee fairness to both meter asset providers and customers.
“Therefore, customers intending to acquire meters through MAP scheme are to take note of the new cost of meters,” said the company.
KEDCO however pointed out that all customers who had previously paid for meter under this scheme prior to the commencement of this order shall be provided with a meter with no additional cost.
New customer must acquire meter before connection
KEDCO also stated that new customers are to note that all electricity connections must be done strictly based on metering before connection.
That is, no new customer will be connected without a meter first being installed at the premises.
