Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin (APC-Kano North) has sponsored a bill for establishment of North West Development Commission, NWDC.
BizPoint understands that the bill has passed its first reading during the Senate’s plenary session on Wednesday.
The bill, according to Jibrin, as posted in his verified X page, aims at accelerating the development of the North West geopolitical zone, comprising seven states; Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara.

The NWDC, he added, once established, would focus on areas such as roads, education, health, employment, industrialization, agriculture, housing, urban development, water supply, electricity, and commerce.
“This is a significant step towards accelerating the development of the North West,” the Deputy Senate President said.
