Governor of Kano state, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has said that his administration will soon start clearing backlog of gratuities to retirees in the state.
BizPoint reports that the state government is owing about N49 billion gratuities to retirees.
Also, the Chairman, Kano State Pension Trust Fund, had recently said the present administration had inherited N49bn gratuity, but added that governor Yusuf had promised to clear the backlog of the within two years.

Delivering a speech at the 63 Nigeria’s independence celebration, held at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Sunday, Governor Abba assured that his government would commence payment of the gratuities soon.
He said his administration had placed utmost priority to welfare of citizens , especially the government retirees who deserved their gratuities for serving the state for more than three decades.
Yusuf also announced that his administration had embarked on rehabilitation of general hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres across the entire state.
According to him, the government is up and doing to ensure great improvement to healthcare services, adding that his administration had already revoked and reopened Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, allegedly sold by the immediate past government.
He added that to improve the life of youths and check restiveness in the state, governor said “we have already reopened the 26 skills acquisition centres established since the administration of Dr Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
“These centres would support our youths to learn skills and become self reliant. Already programmes had started in those centres.
“Youths restiveness is already being getting rid of. The issue of phone snitching has reduced drastically in our state.
“We have to do everything to protect our state. We have no other state than her. No matter what, no matter the hardship or anything, we will remain in Kano,” he said.
