The Kano state government has promised to out mechanisms in place to eradicate malnutrition in the state.
The state Commissioner of Health, Abubakar Labaran made the commitment at the closing of eight-day training of trainers on Maternal, Infant and Young child Nutrition, in collaboration with the World Bank.

In a statement by Rukayya Uba Sulaiman , Communication Officer of Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria, ANRIN, Kano branch, the Commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Musa Tanko Garko reiterated the state government’s effort to eradicate all kinds of malnutrition from among pregnant women, adolescent girls, lactating mothers and children under the age of five.
Tanko also disclosed that Kano state government would do everything possible to support and enhance the nutritional outcomes in the communities, through not only academic concepts but practical tools that has the power to transform the lives of the good people of the state.
Rukayya explained in the statement that the training was aimed at refreshing and giving knowledge of MIYCN to health workers from different cader, such as academia, medical associations and representatives from Kano state polytechnics.
In his part, according to the statement, the Coordinator of Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRIN) Kano, Dr Umar Yahuza Umar, “elaborated more on the importance of linking policy plan and and actualisation of annual Nutrition budget in achieving the organised set objectives and also highlighted the benefits of early initiation , Complementary feeding , Hygiene practices and the consequences of malnutrition among the above mentioned people .
“Dr Yahuza call on the participants to carry all the knowledge and practices to their respective places and continue to advocate for the implementation of effective nutritional practices through behaviour change communication,” the statement concluded.
