Kano State Government has assured the residents that there is no cause for alarm over flood disasters in Maiduguri and other places.
The assurance came after the state government conducted a critical inspection of the Tiga Dam to ensure it remains secured, following the recent flood disaster in Borno State, which raised concerns about dam safety across the country
The inspection team, led by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Ali Makoda, and the Commissioner for Works, visited the dam alongside experts from their respective ministries.

Speaking to journalists during the visit, Ali Makoda highlighted the significance of the inspection.
“We came with some experts from the Ministry of Water Resources and also Works and Housing to assess the situation. While the Tiga Dam is managed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, our role today was to inspect and ensure everything is in good condition,” he said.

Makoda referenced the recent situation at the Alo Dam, which has prompted widespread concern. “What happened at the Alo Dam sent a very negative signal to Nigerians. That is why His Excellency directed us to be here today,” he explained.
Reassuring the public, Makoda stated that the experts had reviewed the dam’s current condition and found no cause for alarm. “We have listened to the experts, and all indications show that the dam is intact. There is nothing to worry about,” he confirmed.
He said the inspection is part of the state government’s proactive measures to prevent any potential flooding disasters as the rainy season intensifies.
He added that the team is expected to continue their assessment at other key dams in the state, including Bagwai and Challawa.
