Thousands of civil servants in Kano state have found themselves in a state of euphoria after the first salary, under the new minimum wage regime hit their bank accounts.
BizPoint reports that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the state, in October approved N71,000 as the new minimum wage and promised to implement it in November.

The governor’s announcement kept the workers waiting impatiently until Monday, November 25, when celebration erupted among them at their respective places of work after receiving the alert.
BizPoint observed that the implementation of the new minimum wage had sparked celebration among workers and their families, especially on social media, praising Governor Yusuf for the new improved salary.
A senior civil servant working at one of the government agencies, who preferred to remain anonymous told our correspondent that his monthly salary has been increased by over N50,000.
According to him, the implementation of the new minimum wage by governor Yusuf is timely in view of the economic hardship in the country.
He said governor Yusuf had indeed demonstrated true quality leadership worthy of emulation by keeping to his promise to implement the new minimum wage regime.
“I am a sit-in Director. I noticed an increment of over N50,000. I was highly happy because at this time, this intervention is timely and highly commendable.
“We are battling with cost of living. This intervention is highly appreciated because it would ease our economic suffering. The governor had indeed rescued us from hardship.
“I can’t thank the governor enough. Words can’t describe how happy and euphoric I am at the moment. May Allah bless him and fulfill all his life desires,” he prayed.
The civil servant noted that governor Yusuf would be forever remembered by Kano workers for coming to their aid at a critical time of economic turmoil in the country.
A junior female civil servant working at Yusuf Maitama Sule University in Kano, told our correspondent that she and her colleague had to perform a special prostration to thank God for the improved salary.
The worker, who did not want us to mention her name, said as a GL4 worker, her salary was N46,000 but received N94,000, an increment of N48,000, addition of over 100 percent.
“I could not believe it when the alert hit my phone. I had to ask a colleague to check it well for me. Initially, i thought it was a mistake from the bank that transfers the money.
“Not long ago after receiving my alert, another colleague of mine received her own and noticed increment.
“It was then we contacted one of our officers who confirmed to us that it is the new minimum wage.
“Many of us (women) shouted “Allahu Akbar”, meaning Allah is the Greatest. Some of us performed Sujudul Shukur, a prostration to thank Allah.

” Virtually all our colleagues, including our senior officers were happy and smiling all over. We are very grateful to the governor for this great intervention. May Allah reward you abundantly,. We want you to continue as our governor beyond 2027.” she said.
BizPoint reports that following the new development, governor Yusuf confirmed the implementation of the new minimum wage regime on his X page.
“I can confirm that civil and public servants in Kano have now received significant increment in their salaries as promised.
“I thank them for their support and patience. We shall do more to improve their welfare. – AKY,” he posted.
