Kano state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed the state’s readiness for strategic partnerships with United Nations, UN, agencies in Nigeria.

The governor has expressed the commitment on Sunday when he hosted The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, who was in Kano to offer condolences to the government and people of the state over the passing of Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.

In a statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, his spokesman, Governor Yusuf showed readiness to partner with UN, especially in the areas of education, healthcare, climate change, renewable energy, environmental protection, and sustainable investment.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing development policies that improve the quality of life for the people of Kano and contribute meaningfully to global development efforts.

In her remarks earlier, Mrs Mohammed commended Governor Yusuf for his “remarkable strides in advancing social development and promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

The UN Deputy Secretary-General also lauded several of Governor Yusuf’s people-focused initiatives, particularly those aligned with global sustainable development targets.

The projects , according to Dawakin-Tofa include the solarization of Kano’s streets, the establishment of the Kano Centre for Disease Control — the first of its kind created by any state government in Nigeria — and efforts to expand health coverage for the informal sector through the state insurance scheme.

She also praised the creation of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, as well as the renaming and repositioning of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, all of which reflect the government’s commitment to climate action and sustainability.

Mrs. Mohammed noted that her visit was not only to condole but also to deepen advocacy on the SDGs and strengthen collaboration with Kano State.

She informed the governor about the upcoming UN Business and Investment Forum and expressed appreciation for his dedication to women’s empowerment, job creation, and environmental sustainability.

“Kano is like a country, and it should be treated as such in terms of development support,” she remarked.
