The Chairman of Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Dr. Najeebullah Falalu Tukur, has deepened support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food security and agricultural transformation agenda by introducing an additional fertiliser subsidy that reduces the price of a 50kg bag to ₦18,800 for farmers across the council. The intervention further reduces the cost by ₦10,000 from the Jigawa State Government’s subsidised price of ₦28,800, making the fertiliser among the most affordable available to farmers in the state.
Speaking at the official flag-off of the programme, themed “Empowering Farmers, Building Our Community,” Tukur said the initiative was designed to complement President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises food security, increased agricultural productivity, affordable farm inputs and improved livelihoods for rural farmers.
He explained that the scheme also aligns with the Matawalle Agric Support Programme (MASP), aimed at boosting agricultural output and strengthening food security in Buji Local Government Area.
Today, I officially flagged off the sale and distribution of subsidised fertiliser to farmers across Buji Local Government Area at a highly reduced price of ₦18,800 per 50kg bag, down from the previous subsidised rate of ₦28,800,” the chairman said.
Tukur attributed the success of the intervention to the support and agricultural reforms of Governor Umar Namadi, noting that the governor’s policies have empowered local government councils to expand initiatives that directly benefit farmers and enhance food production.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to complementing both the Federal Government’s agricultural policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Jigawa State Government’s reforms through programmes that guarantee farmers easier access to quality farm inputs and higher crop yields.
Beyond agriculture, the council chairman inspected the ongoing construction of five lock-up shops at Yayarin Tukur, a project being executed by an indigenous contractor, Alhaji Usman Dangaladima of Yayarin Tukur Nig. Ltd.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the work, Tukur urged the contractor to maintain high construction standards and ensure timely completion of the project.
The chairman also distributed smartphones to the 11 Jigawa State Health Management Committee (JICHMA) ward focal persons and the local government focal coordinator to facilitate the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment verification exercise.
According to him, the devices will improve the efficiency of the verification process, strengthen public service delivery and support effective implementation of government programmes at the grassroots.
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to continue executing people-oriented projects that promote agricultural growth, stimulate local economic development and improve the living conditions of residents of Buji Local Government Area.
