The Kano State Consumer Protection Council, KCPC, has successfully intervened and resolved a dispute between BAJAJ Company and a tricycle operator, Tasi’u Musa over the purchase of a motorbike.
BizPoint gathered that the disagreement started when Musa purchased the brand new motorcycle at BAJAJ’s Kano branch for commercial use.
However, to the Musa’s dismay, the machine began developing problems few days after the transaction, prompting the customer to rush to the company to lodge complain.
It was gathered that the management of the company was reluctant to respond to the customer’s complaint despite the warranty agreement, a situation that pushed him to report the matter to the KCPC.
In a statement by Jamil Mustapha Yakasai, the KCPC’s Director Public Enlightenment in Kano on Thursday, the agency invited the parties for amicable resolution of the matter.
Yakasai said the KCPC constituted a panel, under the leadership of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, to hear the statements of the warring parties with a view to bringing amicable resolution.
He stated that after having what he described as fruitful discussion, an agreement was stroke, that the motorcycle be repaired, a decision that was unanimously agreed by both parties.
Speaking on behalf of BAJAJ Company, Idris Ibrahim Yusuf stated that the company was prepared to address any legitimate concerns relating to the rights of its customers.
He further assured the Council that appropriate measures would be taken to prevent reoccurrence of such an incident.
Earlier, according to Yakasai, the Executive Secretary of the KCPC, in his remarks, restated the importance of consumers’ rights, particularly regarding product warranty, quality, and access to appropriate remedies when purchased goods develop problems.
“Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad also commended BAJAJ Company for its understanding and willingness to accept the agreed corrective measures, while urging the company to take necessary steps to prevent similar incidents in the future,” the statement said.
