Saudi Arabia has announced an increase in electricity tariffs for residential, commercial and other consumers, with the revised rates taking effect on January 1, 2027.
The Saudi Energy Company announced the changes on Sunday, October 25, in accordance with the Kingdom’s procedures for adjusting energy and water prices.
Under the new tariff structure, residential electricity consumption of up to 6,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month will be charged at 21 halalas per kWh, compared with the current rate of 18 halalas.
For residential consumption exceeding 6,000 kWh per month, the rate will increase from 30 to 33 halalas per kWh.
This represents an increase of approximately 16.7% for the first residential consumption slab and 10% for the higher slab.

Revised Fixed Monthly Electricity Tariffs
Under the revised tariff structure, residential consumers will pay fixed monthly charges ranging from SAR 70 to SAR 100, depending on their electricity breaker’s capacity.
Households with breakers rated from 20 to less than 100 amperes will pay SAR 70 per month, while those with 100 to less than 200 amperes will pay SAR 80.
The monthly charge will be SAR 90 for breakers rated from 200 to less than 300 amperes and SAR 100 for breakers rated 300 amperes and above.
Saudi Energy clarified that the revised fixed tariff will replace the existing meter reading, maintenance and bill preparation fees. Customers will not be charged both fees simultaneously.
New Commercial and Industrial Electricity Tariffs
Commercial establishments, private educational institutions and private medical facilities will pay 25 halalas per kWh for consumption up to 6,000 kWh per month.
Consumption exceeding 6,000 kWh will be charged at 35 halalas per kWh.
Industrial consumers covered by the announced tariff category will pay 23 halalas per kWh.
Agricultural consumers will pay 19 halalas per kWh for the first 6,000 kWh and 23 halalas for higher consumption.
Charitable organizations will be charged 17 halalas per kWh for consumption up to 6,000 kWh and 21 halalas above that level.
Government electricity consumption will be charged at a single rate of 35 halalas per kWh.
Fixed monthly charges for non-residential categories will also vary according to breaker capacity and the applicable customer category.
How Will the New Tariffs Affect Electricity Bills?
The revised tariffs will apply to electricity consumed from January 1, 2027.
Any electricity consumed before that date will continue to be billed under the existing tariffs, even if the billing period extends into January 2027.
The company also clarified that fixed monthly charges will be calculated proportionately when the billing period is shorter or longer than 30 days.
The published tariff amounts exclude value-added tax (VAT), which will be added to electricity bills.
Customers can check their electricity breaker’s capacity through the Saudi Energy mobile application or their electricity bill.
The company has advised customers to review the revised electricity tariff details on its official website.
Customers with questions about the revised tariffs or billing procedures can contact Saudi Energy through its official customer service channels.
