The Kano State government has revealed that 867 clearly classified projects out of 1,557 being executed across the state have been completed within the three years under the administration of governor Abba Yusuf.

The Commissioner, Ministry for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Nura Iro Maaji disclosed this at a press conference in Kano on Sunday.

According to Maaji, the 867 completed projects represented 55.68 percent while 654, representing 42.00 percent are ongoing.

He added that 26 projects, representing 1.66 percent are at the award stage; while 10 others, at 0.64 per cent are planned and ready for award.

According to the Commissioner, the projects had a cumulative contract value of ₦996.29 billion, while ₦695.20 billion has been approved through No Objection Certificates (NOCs), with ₦444.75 billion in payment certificates vetted by the ministry.

He noted that the figures demonstrated significant scale of the current administration’s capital investment programmes and the level of financial oversight being applied to projects under the Ministry’s monitoring mandate.”

Maaji further explained that the projects were distributed across Kano’s 44 Local Government Areas, with 598 projects valued at approximately ₦299.36 billion located in the eight metropolitan LGAs.

The 36 rural LGAs, according to him, account for 653 projects valued at about ₦287.90 billion.

He added that cross-cutting projects, covering multiple LGAs are valued at approximately ₦159.50 billion, adding that satewide and other projects account for about ₦249.54 billion.

“Defending on the government’s distribution of projects, the figures demonstrate that rural development remains a major component of the administration’s investment programme.

“This show that the government’s development agenda extends beyond the metropolitan area to include rural roads, healthcare facilities, schools, housing, feeder roads and other essential infrastructure,” he added.

Highlighting other major projects captured by the government, the Commissioner mentioned mass-housing scheme at Rijiyar Gwangwan in Dawakin Kudu Local Government area, which he said was awarded at approximately.₦113.19 billion.

The government also identified the ₦24.77 billion Katsina Road expansion, the ₦21.90 billion Modern Cities infrastructure programme, the ₦27.74 billion Madobi–Yako–Kafin Maiyaki/Kiru Road intervention, and the ₦22 billion Rural Model City Project covering all 36 rural LGAs.

On financial oversight, the commissioner said “the payment figure reflects payment certificates that have been duly vetted by the Ministry,” noting that the portfolio includes ongoing, recently awarded and planned projects.

He further assured that the government would continue to monitor project implementation, address bottlenecks and ensure that public resources are deployed responsibly.

“The Government remains committed to ensuring that these investments translate into measurable improvements in the lives of the teeming citizens and residents alike.

” Let me use this opportunity to reaffirm our ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability. At this ministry, we will continue to ensure that projects are monitored from procurement through implementation to completion and that payment certification is linked to verified project execution.

” Data showed that Kano State is undertaking a large-scale development programme, with significant progress already recorded, substantial projects still under implementation, and a continuing requirement for rigorous monitoring, financial discipline and timely project completion,” he said.
